The Incredibles Stamps Will Save the Day Tomorrow

The Mail a Smile (Forever®) stamps will be issued tomorrow at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, and we can hardly wait! The colorful and fun stamps feature characters from five Disney•Pixar movies, including Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) and Dashiell “Dash” Parr from The Incredibles (2004).

Creating believable muscle movement, skin, and hair in computer animation was widely considered nearly impossible until The Incredibles, the first Pixar film with an all-human cast.

Director Brad Bird wanted protagonist Robert Parr (aka Mr. Incredible) and his friends and family to have a comic-book quality yet still be believable. A computer program that gave an organic inner glow to their skin helped achieve the effect. Inspired by 1960s futuristic architecture and design, more than 100 sets were created for this meticulously detailed world, nearly three times more than any previous Pixar film.

The Incredibles won the Academy Awards for Best Animated Film and Best Sound Editing and swept the Annie Awards with a record-setting 10 wins, including Best Animated Feature.

The First Day of Issue ceremony for the Mail a Smile (Forever®) stamps will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Will you be joining us?

Baseball Greats Get Their Own Spotlights

Hot off the presses! We have some exciting stamp news for all of you. The Major League Baseball All-Stars (Forever®) stamps will be issued in Cooperstown, New York—but this time we’re doing something different. In addition to panes of 20 stamps featuring all four of the MLB all-stars, USPS is also issuing individual panes for each player. Fans of Ted Williams, Larry Doby, Willie Stargell, and Joe DiMaggio will be able to celebrate their favorite players as a group or individually.

“We’ve heard from Indians, Pirates, Red Sox, and Yankees fans and we’re stepping up to the plate to immortalize their revered players individually,” said U.S. Postal Service Stamp Services Manager Stephen Kearney. “We have a limited quanity of individual player stamp sheets ready to fill all preorders now for shipment on July 21—with these orders getting top priority. It will be interesting to learn which of the four players sells the most individual sheets. Orders received for individual player stamp sheets will be accepted and honored through August 31, 2012, even if it requires additional printing.”

First Day of Issue ceremonies for the individual panes will be held in the cities where each of the baseball greats left his mark—Ted Williams in Boston, Larry Doby in Cleveland, Willie Stargell in Pittsburgh, and Joe DiMaggio in New York. Check back here for more information on the times and locations for the events.

Kearney noted that the individual player stamp sheets will be sold only in limited quantities beginning July 21 at select Post Offices in Boston, Cleveland, Cooperstown, New York, and Pittsburgh. To ensure customers obtain all the individual player sheets and related philatelic products, he recommended ordering them between now and August 31.

The Major League Baseball All-Stars (Forever®) stamps and philatelic products, including the gorgeous Play Ball! book, are all available for pre-order now! Which player’s stamps will you buy?
