Hiding Under the Bed with Monsters, Inc. Stamps

The official date of issuance for the Mail a Smile (Forever®) stamps is less than two weeks away! These stamps, featuring Disney•Pixar characters—like Boo, Mike Wazowski, and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan from Monsters, Inc. (2001)—are an easy, fun way to put a smile on anyone’s face.

Inspired by memories of childhood fears, director Pete Docter and co-directors Lee Unkrich and David Silverman took audiences into a witty world where hard-working monsters like James P. Sullivan (Sulley) and his assistant Mike Wazowski scare children to harvest the energy in their screams and believe that human children are frighteningly “toxic.”

Using breakthrough computer technology, animators created an entirely imaginative yet believable world for monsters to live and work in. They also took the characters’ movements and expressions to a whole new level of perfection, including the great challenge of animating fur (and Sulley’s 2,320,413 hairs!). The delightfully imaginative tale delivered larger-than-life entertainment that earned it four Oscar nominations, including Best Animated Feature Film, Best Sound Editing, and Best Original Score, and an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Since 1995, Pixar Animation Studios has won 29 Academy Awards. Responsible for almost every major breakthrough in computer animation, the company continues to reset the bar in technology with every film.

These bright, lovable stamps will be issued on Friday, June 1, at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort in Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Attendance is free and open to the public, but you must RSVP by today!: http://www.rsvptrack.com/pixarstamps/. Bicycling Stamps Pedaling Closer

Exciting news, stamp fans! On June 7, the new Bicycling (Forever) stamps will be officially issued in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

One of the most popular outdoor activities in the country, each of the four colorful se-tenant stamps features a different kind of bike and rider: a young child just learning to ride, a commuter pedaling to work, a road racer intent on the finish line, and an airborne BMX rider. Check back here for more details on the time and location of the stamp ceremony. We hope you’ll join us!

Just Keep Swimming: Finding Nemo Stamp Coming Soon!

With the First Day of Issue ceremony for the Mail a Smile (Forever®) stamps just a couple weeks away, we can hardly contain our excitement! Finding Nemo is one of five Disney•Pixar favorites that will appear on the pane.

Father-son relationships reach new depths in Finding Nemo, the story of an overprotective clownfish named Marlin who overcomes his own fears to rescue his son, Nemo, from a dentist’s aquarium.

Directed by Andrew Stanton, Pixar animators dove into the challenge of making fish emotionally expressive and creating a believable underwater world by studying fish in a 25-gallon tank at Pixar Studios, taking diving trips, and attending ichthyology lectures. Advanced computer programs were developed to create the underwater environments.

The most complex Pixar film to date, Finding Nemo set a high-water mark for computer animation. It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and nominations for Best Original Score, Best Sound Editing, and Best Writing/Original Screenplay.

The fun, lovable stamps will be issued on Friday, June 1, at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort in Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Attendance is free and open to the public, but you must RSVP by May 22: http://www.rsvptrack.com/pixarstamps/.

The first issuance in this series, Send a Hello, which is still available, was released in 2011 and featured characters from Disney•Pixar’s Ratatouille, Cars, Toy Story, WallE, and Up. The Send a Hello and Mail a Smile stamps tap the Disney•Pixar characters’ contemporary humor and lively personalities to convey an animated message about the positive impact of communicating by mail in any season and for any reason. The Mail a Smile stamps can be pre-ordered today!
